Places to Visit in Sargodha

Sargodha is not a classic tourist city, and an honest guide should say so. What it offers is a planned colonial-era city centre, a genuinely historic town at Bhera, working citrus farmland, and easy access to some of the Punjab's best-known lakes and valleys within the wider division.

Company Bagh and Jinnah Hall

Company Bagh is the city's central public garden, a gathering place for families in the evenings. It also holds Jinnah Hall, a landmark built in 1949 and named for Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It began as a town hall and library and is now used as an exhibition hall, event space and library. An antique fighter jet is mounted in the park, a reminder of the city's air-force identity.

Bhera: the old walled town

Bhera, in the north of the district beside the Jhelum River, is the most historic place you can reach in a day from Sargodha. Its old town is enclosed by high walls with eight gates and is divided into traditional neighbourhoods. The Jamia Mosque is dated to 1540, the year Sher Shah Suri founded a new town here. Bhera recorded 70,921 people in the 2023 census.

The town is known for wood-carved items, textiles such as quilts and khussas, and sweets such as pheni and patisa, so it is a good place to buy local crafts and food. Its bazaars are best explored on foot.

Kinnow orchards in winter

Sargodha is Pakistan's citrus heartland, and the kinnow harvest runs through winter. Visiting orchards or the fruit markets between roughly November and February lets you see grading, packing and trucking up close. Always ask the landowner before entering an orchard and do not pick fruit without permission.

Day trips within Sargodha Division

The division includes districts with scenery that the city itself lacks. Soon Valley and the lakes at Uchhali and Khabikki lie in the Salt Range of Khushab district, and Namal Lake is in Mianwali district. Distances and road conditions vary, so check the route before you leave, and avoid driving after dark in winter fog.

Places you should not try to visit

  • PAF Base Mushaf is a restricted military area. Do not enter, photograph or fly a drone near it.
  • The Kirana Hills form part of a defence reservation. Do not climb or photograph installations, and respect any barriers or guards.

Practical tips

  • Visit between October and March. Summer afternoons regularly exceed 40 degrees Celsius.
  • Check the live forecast before you travel, and plan around winter fog on highways.
  • Carry your original CNIC; it is needed at checkpoints and for hotel check-in.
  • Cash is still widely used in bazaars outside the main city.
