How the district was formed
The area was created as Shahpur District in 1893 under British rule. When the district headquarters moved to the newer town of Sargodha, the district took the city's name. Today it is part of Sargodha Division, together with Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar districts.
Economy and farming
Sargodha is an agricultural district. Wheat, rice, sugarcane and kinnow are the main crops, and the district is one of the world's best citrus-producing areas. Rural residents make up 62.87 per cent of the population, which is why farm prices and the irrigation season shape so much of local life.
Politics and constituencies
The district has five National Assembly constituencies, NA-82 to NA-86, and ten Punjab Assembly constituencies, PP-71 to PP-80. Electricity across the district is supplied by the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO).
